Bisacodyl suppositories (Dulcolax) funding approved

PHARMAC is pleased to announce the approval of a supply agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim NZ Limited for bisacodyl suppositories (Dulcolax). The supplier of the Fleet brand of bisacodyl 10 mg suppositories (Baxter) has given notice of its discontinuation and that remaining stock is nearly depleted. The listing of Dulcolax 10 mg suppositories will ensure that a funded 10 mg bisacodyl suppository remains available for those who need it. In addition, the manufacturers’ surcharge that applies to the Dulcolax 5 mg bisacodyl suppository will be removed.

Summary of the decision

Dulcolax will be listed in Section B and Section H of the Pharmaceutical from 1 April 2010 at the following price and subsidy (ex-manufacturer and ex-GST):
