Dear Pharmacist / Wholesaler
Diclofenac sodium – pharmacist Close Control removal
Due to stock shortages, from 11 September 2009 diclofenac sodium tabs long-acting 75 mg and 100 mg were able to be dispensed Close Control monthly with pharmacist annotation. The stock situation has now improved and PHARMAC is now providing notice that from Monday 3 May 2010, all new prescriptions for diclofenac sodium tablets long-acting 75 mg and 100 mg (all brands) are to be dispensed stat (3 monthly) unless endorsed by a doctor that dispensing should be more frequent via the Close Control rule. Please note that the remainder of repeats for a prescription of diclofenac sodium tablets long-acting 75mg and 100 mg first dispensed Close Control monthly between 11 September 2009 and 2 May 2010 can either be (at the discretion of the pharmacist and stock availability): o o completed Close Control monthly, or dispensed stat where appropriate.
Pharmacists will need to annotate any prescriptions that continue to be dispensed Close Control monthly for audit purposes. Instructions have been included on how to amend dispensing software below.

Lots users:
For most of you, there will be nothing to do other than be aware that Diclofenac must be dispensed ‘Stat’ from 3 May 2010. However, if you have a ‘User Dispensary Message’ on any Diclofenac stockcards that refers to close control then please remove it by going into the stockcard , then to the Drug Information tab. Click in the User Disp Msg and delete using the backspace key. The stockcards affected are:

MDS Quickcard pregnancy test – pricing amendment
Due to a missed communication between PHARMAC and MDS Diagnostics; the price of MDS Quickcard has incorrectly been listed in the May 2010 Update to the Pharmaceutical Schedule as $19.00 per 25 pack (OP) with subsidy of $14.25. The price and subsidy should in fact be $14.25 per 25 pack OP. We have included instructions on how to amend dispensing software on the next page to reflect the correct price. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions regarding the above, please contact PHARMAC on 0800 66 00 50 (9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday). Yours sincerely,
Scott Brydon Schedule Analyst
