Dear Pharmacist and Wholesaler Clarithromycin 500 mg tablets (Apo-Clarithromcyn) – Deferral of SSS and HSS

We have been advised by Apotex (NZ) Ltd that supplies of its clarithromycin 500 mg tablets (Apo-Clarithromycin) have been delayed. Consequently, PHARMAC has delayed the reference pricing of the Klamycin brand of clarithromycin 500 mg tablets from 1 January 2012 to 1 March 2012 and the delisting of Klamycin from 1 April 2012 until 1 June 2012.

Hospital Sole Supply status for clarithromycin 500 mg tablets (Apo-Clarithromycin) has been deferred from 1 January 2012 to 1 April 2012.

Please note:  We understand from Mylan New Zealand Ltd that there is sufficient stock of Klamycin to supply the market until Apo-Clarithromycin becomes available.
