Dear Health Professional Change in the brand of Spacer Device subsidised – effective 1 December 2011. Between December 2011 and February 2012 there will be a change in the 230 ml spacer device used with pressurised metered dose inhalers. The currently available “Space Chamber” will be replaced by “Space Chamber Plus”. Both products are supplied by the same company, Air Flow Products Limited, with the only differences being:   The new Space Chamber Plus has blue valves and writing, the current Space Chamber has green. The new Space Chamber Plus delivers more drug than the current Space Chamber.

Some patients may experience a different effect The increase in drug delivery (approximately 80%) from the new Space Chamber Plus may result in some patients experiencing an increase in side effects when they use the new Space Chamber Plus. When switching, patients should be informed that they may experience a change in the effect and if they have any concerns they should contact their Doctor. Patients should also be monitored one month after making the change for the emergence of symptoms of disease or adverse effects. (This is particularly the case for paediatric patients). There is no difference between the two products in terms of the care and cleaning process. More information Air Flow Products will be managing this change.
