Pharmaceutical Schedule Rules

PHARMAC has been asked by the Pharmacy Services Steering Group to lead a review of the Pharmaceutical Schedule rules. Specifically, PHARMAC is reviewing Close Control, the distribution of special foods to patients and the distribution of higher-cost products to patients.

The initial Discussion Document, Review of Pharmaceutical Schedule Rules (21 pages, 334 KB), was issued in November 2010 and the feedback period for this is now closed. This page will be updated as the review progresses.

In addition, and closely related, to PHARMAC's review of Close Control, special foods distribution and higher cost medicines distribution, DHBs are consulting on other aspects of this project. These are community pharmacy services for people in age-related residential care and community supported accommodation; and service, funding and contracting options.
